Student Consumer Action Network
While we seem to have more information and choices than ever before, the
marketplace is getting more confusing and figuring out the best option
is getting more and more difficult. Students are getting ripped off all
the time—from landlords who are unresponsive and won't give us our
security deposits back, to the nearby grocery store that overcharges us
because we don't have cars, to the corporations that are taking our
information off our Facebook profiles.
And rather than becoming better, many of these problems are getting worse.
Our
economy needs to be fair to consumers in order to function. While a
company may make a short-term profit from ripping off consumers or
putting an unsafe product on the market, it's not good for anyone in the
long term.
We’re taking action to make sure that ordinary
people like you and me get a fair shake, get the information we need,
and have the tools to protect ourselves from rip-offs and scams. We’re
releasing reports, consumer surveys, and other resources that tell
students more about our options. We’re also telling decision makers that
the consumer laws that protect us have to deliver.
